Sri Sri Marma Therapy

An Overview on Marma:

The ancient definition of marma points, handed down to us through the centuries, is specifically “the various points on the body where the subtle life energy becomes matter, where thoughts transfer into the physical”. They are junction points in the body, fundamental built-in electrical switches.

The marma points links to the subtle channels called nadis (similar to meridians in the Chinese system of medicine). Just as in the physical body the passageways become blocked by toxins, so too the tiniest of mental stresses will cloud or obstruct these subtle points, reducing the flow of energy.

Gentle pressure on the marmas releases the blocks and allows prana or life energy to flow to the connecting organs or tissues giving them a new lease of life.

The marma technique is potentially the most restorative of the Ayurvedic treatments as it harmonizes the body’s built-in energy network. The marma is widely popular as a treatment. Simple and effective, with a minimum of equipment, it can be practiced anywhere.

Our signature therapy – Marma

An ancient technique of healing from Vedic traditions, marma is a very gentle form of bodywork that enhances the free flow of prana (life force) by releasing these blocks and revitalizes the entire system.

The most restorative treatment for the body and mind, marma works on the subtle energy points by opening up the energy channels, which in turn works on many levels of the physical, mental and subtle body. It opens up the energy channels, increases energy and enhances vitality. It releases stress and disease-reversing towards good health and is highly beneficial in the healthy to re-energize and provide a proper flow of energy within the body.

The blocks that are formed in the energy channels of the body due to emotions and subtle feelings are the cause of many diseases.  Marma is a technique in which simple touch or light massage on the vital points of the body, the Marma points, are used to balance the life force (prana).

There are 107 main energy points on the surface of the body. Each relates to a different organ or tissue. By gently pressing or massaging these sites prana is stimulated, clearing stress and blocks in the body. The unique aspect of this amazing therapy is that it transcends the physical and mental levels rectifying defective energy channels in a subtle way.

Marmas are junction points in the body where matter, mind, and consciousness meet. These vital points are responsible for the circulation of energy, intelligence, and prana, the breath of life. Marmas are the forerunners of acupressure and acupuncture, coming from ancient Vedic traditions.

Further, marma helps develop the body’s immune system and longevity of both the body and mind, by ensuring the proper balance and flow of hormones, fluids, immune factors etc. marma supports the healing process of many diseases. It can also be used to just get a peaceful mind.

The Art of Living’s Wellness Programs Department

Wellness is essentially a paradigm shift from ‘disease’ to ‘health’. Let us take a look at ‘Wellness’ as it is being described across the globe. It is understood to mean:

  • A conscious, positive, self-propelled process of achieving one’s full potential: Thus, the purpose of ‘Wellness’ is to help one to reach one’s highest capabilities in all spheres of activity; work, family and social. A wellness-centric approach will thus make one, more productive at work, help one to balance all aspects of one’s life. With improved productivity, the scope to increase earning is better. Increased affluence will serve its purpose only when the individual begins to nurture physical, emotional, intellectual and spiritual dimensions. This is only an affirmation of our ancient wisdom; dharma, artha, kama, moksha.
  • Equipping oneself with physical, emotional and intellectual resilience.
  • A multi-dimensional path covering physical, emotional, intellectual & spiritual aspects of an individual.
  • A holistic approach to lifestyle towards mental and spiritual well-being.
  • Understanding the subtle interactions of the environment with the individual.
